Hematoma Managed with Factor™: Near-Resolution Over Eight Weeks
An older adult male with multiple significant comorbidities presented in mid-January 2023 with a large traumatic hematoma of the lower extremity after striking his leg on a dental chair. His medical history included type 2 diabetes, renal failure, obesity, peripheral arterial disease, severe lower-extremity edema, and a chronic right foot wound that had been slow to resolve. Given his medical status, the treatment plan was designed to avoid the need for a skin graft.

Treatment Approach
The treatment plan included weekly debridement and dressing changes in the wound care office, along with dressing changes at home every other day. The patient was instructed to cleanse the wound with purified water, apply Factor™ over the entire wound surface, and cover it with a silicone dressing to protect the wound and surrounding tissue.

Clinical Outcome
The wound showed excellent early progress within the first several weeks of treatment. According to the case report, there were no signs of infection during the documented treatment period, and Factor™ remained the only wound care product used on the patient. By the final documented visit, the case was described as approaching resolution over an eight-week period.

He is a past president of the Rocky Mountain Vascular Surgical Society and a Fellow of the Southwestern Surgical Congress. He served as Commander/OIC of a surgical base in Afghanistan from 2012–2013.
